Your family.
Nothing assumed.
Tell us who is actually in your family, one memory from before she was grown up, and what you make of her partner. You get a finished speech built to open the room and hand it on.
Before you pay.
What do you actually need from me?
Who is in your family and who is in the room, who you are thanking and for what, one properly told memory from before she was grown up, and what you make of her partner. The family question exists so nothing about your own family is assumed — a second parent, a marriage, who paid — and it is worth answering plainly.
I am a stepfather. Will it write as though I am not?
No. Father of the bride describes the role you are speaking in, not a fact about biology, and the speech is written from what you tell it about your own relationship to her — never inferred from the title. Say what is true and it holds to exactly that.
Her mother and I are not together any more. What happens?
Nothing is assumed about a second parent at all — not that there is one, not that you are married to her, not that she is even alive. "On behalf of my wife and I" is the single most common phrase this speech produces by default, and it is refused unless you actually confirm it. Tell it your family's real shape and it writes from that.
Do I have to give marriage advice at the end?
No, and the better ending is usually none at all — a speech with no advice reads better than one with borrowed advice. If you genuinely have something you want to say, it keeps it to your own words and short. It will never manufacture wisdom, and it will never generate anything about roles in a marriage, however lightly meant.
I know I am going to cry. Can it help with that?
It writes with it in mind rather than around it: the line most likely to catch you is placed early in its paragraph, not at the end of one, so a pause does not strand the room, and the delivery notes tell you a pause is fine and the room is entirely on your side. It will not write a sentence engineered to make you cry — that is sentiment on your behalf, not warmth.
What does it actually cost?
Top up once, then top up again when your balance runs low. Father of the Bride Speech Writer is about 28p — never more than 40p — and you are charged only what it actually used. A change costs pence like any other run. A job that fails to generate spends nothing at all.
Other jobs Unfussed does.
