Eulogy Writer

A portrait.
Not an obituary.

A few gentle questions about who they were, not how they died. You get a eulogy you can stand up and read, with notes for getting through it.

Before you start.

What do you actually need from me?

Their name and what you called them, who they were to you, two or three things you remember, what they were actually like, who is in the room, and whether faith was part of their life. It is kept short on purpose — every question here costs you something, so nothing is asked that will not change the eulogy.

Will it ask how they died?

No. Not as a question, not as an optional field, not as a gentle if-you'd-like-to-share prompt. It does not need it, and it will never put a cause of death in the eulogy even if you mention one in passing elsewhere while answering something else.

What if there was no religion, or I do not know what they believed?

No, and not really are both complete answers, and the eulogy is written without a single afterlife phrase if that is what you say. It will not add in a better place or watching over us by default, and it will not strip faith out either if you tell it the person was devout — it writes exactly what you told it, nothing assumed either way.

Mum wasn't an easy person. Will it turn her into someone she wasn't?

No. If you describe someone prickly, stubborn or hard work, the eulogy keeps that, held with affection rather than sanded into a stranger nobody in the room will recognise. A eulogy that removes every edge is a eulogy that gets the person wrong.

What if I cannot get through it on the day?

It comes with a shorter version built for exactly that, and delivery notes covering print size, unstapled pages, water, and the fact that you are allowed to stop and hand the text to whoever is leading the service. A pause is never a failure.

Can I change it afterwards?

Yes — say what to change and it runs again, at the same cost as the first time.
